College List FAQs

My school is not listed, may I still apply?

Yes. We apologize for any omissions. This listing contains most of our applicants' and members' schools, but is not exhaustive. Eligibility is not dependent on your school appearing on this list.

My school is listed. Does that mean my school is affiliated with the honor society?

No. The National Scholars Honor Society is an independent academic honors organization. We respectfully decline all formal affiliations with institutions, associations or other organizations.

Why does the honor society decline affiliations?

Please visit the "History" and "Who We Are" sections of the website for a complete discussion.

If I am a member, does it mean I am part of the Honors College at my university?

No. Membership in The National Scholars Honor Society, or any other honor society, is awarded independently of a college or university's Honors College program.

If I am a member, does it mean I am graduating Magna Cum Laude?

No. Membership in The National Scholars Honor Society, or any other honor society, is awarded independently of a college or university's degree, and does not equate to any school's degree designations, and likewise, receiving Latin honors from your school does not guarantee membership in this honor society. The two are independent: neither mutually exclusive nor commensurate. More information on Latin Honors
